Euro Crisis and the possible affect on Business Finance

Wednesday, November 16th, 2011

I think it goes with out saying that the continuing eurocrisis will have a  significant affect on business lending via the high street banks and finance companies. If any of the euro companies default on their debt there is the potential for significant bank write offs which in turn require the banks to recapitalise resulting in less cash for the business borrower. The goods is that there have always been and always will be alternative forms of business finance.

XL Business Finance has for the last 10 years been providing alternative forms of business finance. Whether a business is looking for invoice finance such as factoring or invoice discounting, asset finance or refinance, or alternative forms of specilaist finance such as trade or construction finance there is always an alternative to the high street bank.  These finance companies maybe lesser known but they are often specialists in their particular sector and can often provide alternative and often more flexible and creative forms of funding.

Is the business overdraft dead?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Don’t be surprised that if over the next few months banks start to pull in business overdrafts. There is a very good reason for this and one they will probably never admit. One thing that has come out of the credit crunch is that banks are under capitalised which in turn affects their credit ratings and the cost they borrow money which ultimately affects the rates to the average punter.

When a bank lends money against an overdraft facility it must have far more cash in reserves than any other finance facility. Therefore the more exposure it has against overdrafts the less cash it needs in reserve and as such the better it’s credit rating will be. Therefore if the banks are to improve they must improve their credit rating and one way of doing this is to reduce customers business overdrafts. This has been going on already however news on the street that the banks are up for another tidying exercise.

This will ultimately leave customers in the lurch with possibly no bank based lending alternative. The good news is that there many alternatives to the high street banks. Cash flow finance such as factoring and invoice discounting are credible alternatives. Asset refinance and EFG lending and trade and stocking facilities are also options.

Small Business Finance solutions

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

small business financeWe are still living in tough times financially throughout the UK with the emphasis falling on the small business. Finance can be hard to come by for the small business owner.

Often a small business must undertake a large capital equipment investment in order to grow. The balance sheet of the business is often not strong enough to justify a Hire Purchase or Finance Lease facility.

Without capital investment the business can not grow and become more profitable. A chicken and egg scenario.

Small Business Finance is an area in which XL Business Finance has a great deal of expertise. As an independent finance broker we understand the problems of small business finance, arranging equipment leasing and machinery finance for example.

At XL Business Finance we can provide small business finance for investments from as little as £1000. This could be useful for providing tax efficient leasing for office furniture, computer equipment and telephone systems for instance.

Do not think of us as a company who provides you with a one off service to get you up and running then disappears into the night. We work along side many clients for many years providing finance solutions such as factoring, debt factoring or factoring invoice discounting facility.

As an independent factoring broker XL Business Finance can provide you with the best Business finance to meet your specific requirements.

Business Finance Alternatives

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

As I am sure most SME owners agree there are still a  few difficult years ahead when it comes to arranging business finance via the traditional high street banks.

In our opinion banks are in a very difficult position. They are under pressure to start lending to small businesses however many of these businesses are not strong enough to justify bank support. The banks have been heavily criticised in the past for being too cavalier with their lending policy. Rock and a hard stone comes to mind.

Thankfully there are many alternative business finance solutions including cash flow finance, asset finance and refinance, trade finance and EFG funding. More often than not there is always an independent finance company willing to structure a deal when the banks cannot help.

Asset For Disposal

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

From time to time XL Business Finance has access to assets that have been on Hire purchase or Finance Lease facilities and have been repossessed. Whilst high street finance companies tend to send most of their equipment to auction the smaller asset based lenders will try and find end users. There are often commercial vehicles, coaches light commercials engineering equipment and printing equipment that are available on favourable terms. Whilst these lenders try not to give the repossessions away for nothing they often can provide favourable finance terms especially if the business doesn’t meet normal lending criteria. If your business is looking for a particular piece of kit it is worth letting us know what it is and we will keep an eye out

Is it getting easier to obtain business finance?

Friday, April 8th, 2011

In our opinion  obtaining business finance is still not getting any easier. Banks in particular are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t. Onone hand we can proportion some of the blame to the banks for their cavalier lending policy over the years. However don’t forget that the greed of the consumer and lack of regulation from the government is partly to blame. On the other hand the banks have crawled into their shells mainly through lack of availability of cash but also because the quality of the applications they are seeing probably doesn’t meet their lending criteria. Admittedly the lending criteria has probably tightened but who came blame the banks when most of the UK’s SME businesses appear to be on a knife edge.

The good news is that their there are plenty of independent business finance insitutions coveing invoice discounting , factoring , commercials mortgages, trade finance and asset based lending providing viable and accessible alternatives to the high street banks

Factoring Contractual Debt

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

99% of UK based independent and bank based factoring companies will run a mile when they see that a business supplier terms and conditions are deemed to be slightly contractual. Unless you operate on a sale and forget basis it is worth  ironing out these issues from the start. If a supplier agreement is place that could be construed as contractual it is always worth getting your supplier terms checked out. XL Business Finance recently helped a very profitable business replace a bank overdraft with an invoice discounting facility. Although the business was actually getting 4 quotes only one finance company was able to fund contractual debt allot of time would have been saved at the start of the process if this had been know.

Refinancing Engineering Company

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

XL Business Finance has just recently completed the refinancing of a UK based Engineering Company.  Managing Director Mark Redman can be seen checking ( or trying )  serial numbers on the customer’s equipment. See below for further details

XL Business Finance was approached at the beginning of the new year by the companies accountant to help a UK based Engineering company purchase new equipment for an existing project. At the same time the business wanted to future proof their cash flow and refinance their existing equipment to reduce their monthly outgoings. Although the new equipment was only £30k a refinance package including the funding of the new kit reduced their monthly repayments from £3500 per month to £2800 providing a monthly saving of £700.

XL Business Finance is one of the UK’s leading independent finance companies with over 10 years experience in the asset and asset refinance market. As with any financial market products and availability of funds vary from month to month with the various funders.  The company accountant for this particular engineering company realised the added value a specialist finance company would add to their their client. XL Business Finance was able to source the right level of funding at the most competitive rates and at the same time ensure the finance company completed all the paperwork in a timely and professional manner.

In light of the newly released quarterly trading performance we are in no doubt in line for another rocky 12 months . Refinance of existing plant and machinery may just give many businesses a life line to provide enough working capital to survive until the next upturn
